Let’s talk about kids and feelings

Well if you have ever been around a young child for more then 2 minutes you know they can go through 5 different emotions during that time frame. Feelings can be complex and challenging to manage at any age. As children navigate new experiences and interactions, it is common for them to need help identifying feelings and finding coping strategies. It is very important to discuss and role-play with children so they can explore why they are feeling a specific way and imagine how others might feel as well. This week we went through five different emotions: happy, sad, scared, surprised, and mad.

H is for Happy, hearts and hugs make you happy. Today we worked on the letter H and talked about what makes us happy and what we can do for others that would make them happy. We also read the sweetest book from A Friendship series, A Bear Hug For Bunny, a story about kindness that our preschool curriculum supplied for us this month. The bunny was there when his friend Bear was down. Bunny helped make bears situation better and showed him love by helping Bear and giving him Comfort with a hug.

We made our Sad day the BEST day. We made shadow puppets and made up stories.
We also made wiggle Eyed Monsters. I invited the children to use Play-Doh and wiggle eyes to create a monster. After a few minutes we played a game with our number cube. The children would roll the number cube and then put that many wiggle eyes on their monster. We had so much fun counting and learning.

We opened up our lesson on surprised with, “would you want a surprise birthday party?” We had the best time making party hats and then finding gifts around the house to give to the birthday boy and throwing each child a surprise party.

We also had a great time learning our letters F & H with a surprise spider game. The child had to peek under the napkin and see if the spider was on the letter. Yikes!!!

I’m mad!!! Was on Friday and boy did that day fit The emotion in the house…. it was full moon and Friday the 13th by the way!!!

The boys were feeling all the emotions that day lol and they had a great time expressing their feelings with our Picasso painting.

Well that was an amazing week going through all our feelings we can’t wait for pet week next!! Check out experience learning preschool curriculum https://www.mothergoosetime.com/

Our first week with Mother Goose Time… Amazing!!

Wow what a week!!! We have had so much fun this week. I absolutely loved that Our theme was “My Family” it fit in perfect because “family” is our day cares motto!! My goal is for my home to be a second home and a place where we are all family.

The moment our Experience Early Learning (Mother Goose Time box) arrived at our front door, the kids and I were so excited, and I truly feel that I am providing them with the best preschool curriculum out there. First, it comes in the most precious box ever that will make any child smile and super excited to open. Secondly, it is so easy and all ready organized into units and lessons. Since this was our first box, it came with a starter kit with all the circle time setup… oh my word… cutest circle time set up I’ve ever seen. I wanted to put our circle time area in a corner near the front of the room and I definitely wanted to make it look dramatic. As a provider, I feel that circle time sets off our day and I want that area to be a inviting place for the children. I first painted the wall with a black Chalkboard paint and then put up a border to really make it pop. I laminated everything that was going to be on the circle time wall and I also applied it with Velcro tabs. I did that because I have a mixed age group and my little ones will pull things off the wall.

Every day we start circle time and the children are so excited to look at our daily theme picture from our preschool curriculum. I let each of them try to guess our topic for the day by looking at the picture.

It is the perfect way to open up and get the kids excited.

My favorite day was our 3rd day when we read the sweetest little book called Little Red Riding Hood and Lonely Wolf. It’s a twist to the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood. This book focused on the emotion of loneliness and really helped the children understand that we should not put judgment on people. Just because some people are bad does not mean all that are similar are bad too. The book really focused that we want to love all and accept everyone in our hearts and home. We also talked about how it’s important to do special things for people and that we want to use our gifts to serve others. We made cute baskets and made “sweet treats” in our play kitchen and pretended to deliver our treats to each other.

Our letter this week was F “F is for family” the kids had a blast with the letter F mat and using the loose letter parts to build the letter. I was able to observe the students using the parts to make the letter on the mat and I also got to see if the child was able to make the letter F without using the letter F mat.

This preschool curriculum is set up with hours of fun each day and I loved how they offer so many activities that I can setup and keep the children engaged. Order yours here https://www.mothergoosetime.com/

Thanks for stopping in, see you again next week.

Fun ways to teach letter recognition and practice the alphabet

Hello today I would like to share a couple of my favorite DIY activities to help teach letter recognition and ways children can practice the alphabet.

The Alphabet Box

Say hello to such a fun way to teach letter recognition with capital and lowercase letters. There are so many fan and creative ways you can use this box.

Materials:

  • Cardboard box,
  • Construction paper, wrapping paper or contact paper (really anything you have to cover the box if you wish)
  • Glue gun
  • Box cutter
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Card stock
  • Marker

This letter recognition activity also works on those important fine motor skills. This box can be used in so many ways depending on your child’s skill level. Children can match uppercase letters with uppercase letters, or match lowercase with uppercase letters. The tabs can also provide a great platform to enhance other letter recognition like vowels and learning the alphabet.

the start of the box
used box cutter and made 26 slits large enough for your child to insert the Popsicle stick. Above each slit write a letter of the alphabet.
once your box is made have the children start matching the letters on the box.

The Alphabet Hanger

Say hello to the Alphabet hanger game. This game is super simple and so easy to make.

Materials:

  • Hanger
  • Clothespins
  • Marker
  • Flash cards

Simply put the clothespins in alphabetical order on the hanger and spread the flash cards around.  Have the child pick the clothespin and have them match the letter with the matching letter on the flash card.

let the journey begin

Hello! I’m so happy to welcome you to my page.  My name is Kathleen Ingram and I am a wife and a mommy to three girls. I opened up my in-home daycare in 2013 and I have never look back. It’s something I wanted to do it for a very long time. One Sunday sitting in church the Lord spoke to me and told me to quit my job, have faith in him and open up my dream daycare. The next day I turned in my two week notice and started on His path for me and my family.  In just a couple of of weeks I had my first child lined up and a couple weeks after that I had another child. This is when my journey began. The Lord has always provided and I can feel his presence daily.  I wanted to start my blog to encourage other mamas and child care providers as well as share ideas.  I am also excited to share this curriculum that I have found beneficial to my students. This curriculum provides rich materials and hands on engagement for all levels of learners. I hope my current parents follow along in this journey and see their child experience learning in a colorful way!
