Fitness week!!

Welcome back friends!! This week with our Experience Early Learning curriculum we are learning all about Fitness: running, Jumping, kicking, throwing and catching, and stretching. When children are engaged in active play they are moving and controlling their muscles; this is key for a healthy growing body.

Running

Running is a great exercise whatever you age. Running helps strengthen bones, improve coordination, and can be fun as well.

Jumping

Jumping is a cardiovascular exercise which strengthens the heart. When we do jumping exercises we are working out all the major muscle groups in our body.

Jump, Never Stop

Throw and catch

When we throw and catch a ball we are practicing hand-eye coordination. Baseball is a good example of throwing and catching.

• Next call out a number ( 1-10 ) or ( 1-20 ) and have the children count out loud tossing the beanbag back and forth.

Stretching the body is important to do before and after exercising. Stretching helps keep our bodies flexible and can help prevent injuries.

Food Groups

Welcome to our new unit with experience early learning health and fitness!! As children grow they need nutritious food to keep their bodies fit and healthy. Teaching children how to make healthy food choices is the foundation to lifelong habits of health and wellness. Caregivers can help by exposing children to a wide variety of foods, cooking together, and telling stories about where food is grown and how it comes to our table. This week we are going to be introducing food groups such as grains, vegetables, hurts, dairy, protein.

Grains

Sandwich Art

This is such a fun project to do with the children that our preschool curriculum created. We end up putting our sandwich art in in our home living kitchen to play throughout the whole unit.

Supplies

• Paper red

• yellow paper

• red paper

• green tissue

• menu

Discuss

• what do you like to put on a sandwich?

Make

• encourage children to create the sandwich toppings (cheese, tomatoes, lettuce).

• Explore building different sandwiches.

• Invite children to experiment, if desired, with a hole punch to poke holes in their yellow cheese square.

• If desired encourage children to create additional sandwich types with other materials.

• encourage children to pretend to order and make sandwiches from the menu. Describe what is “on top of” and “below.”

Vegetables

Today during circle time we discussed how to make a salad we then used different color paper to make an pretend community salad. Next spread the sheet or parachute on the floor. Invite each child to toss their paper onto the parachute and say what favorite vegetables they are putting into the community salad. Next the children moved the parachute up and down to “mix” the salad together.

Vegetable stamp art

During the invention to create time experience early learning will supply us with a inspirational photo for the children to look at. On this inspiration photo it was filled with cut vegetables.

I ask questions like this:

• what vegetables do you see?

• What shapes do you think the vegetables will stamp?

• How many different ways can you move the vegetable to make different shapes?

• What colors do you want to stamp on your plate?

I set out some different paint colors and cut real vegetables in half for the children to stamp onto their paper.

Vegetable Garden

I love all the different games that are preschool curriculum has. It was such a pretty day today that we decided to take this activity outside. Invite the children to turn over a card and identify the photo, then decide if it was a vegetable. If it is, “plant“ the matching craft stick in the dirt. If not, set the card aside. Continue playing until all the vegetables are “planted.”

Dairy

Today in our creative corner we made a make and play cow puppet.

Experience early learning box suppled us with:

The sights and sounds of Christmas

Happy Holidays Friends we are having so much fun using our Favorite Preschool curriculum this month. We have been having so much fun this week diving into indoor sights and sounds. From learning all about the true meaning of Christmas to singing all the Christmas carols.

Sewing stockings

What is more cozy then a fireplace with a cozy fire and stockings hanging. In creative art we made stockings we discussed on how stockings are made, where we put them, and what are some things you can find in your stocking on Christmas morning.

Each child was given a paper stocking to decorate with cotton balls, markers, and stickers. After they were finished I encouraged and help the children thread yarn in and out of the stocking holes.

This month I also added the experience early learning experience God unit to help my children understand the true meaning of Christmas. We had so much fun learning the Bible verses , coloring pages, and crafts. Adding the Experience God unit to our normal preschool curriculum was such an added bonus. We did four crafts and experience God included all the materials needed.
